Sustainability

We care about the environment just as much as we care about our furniture – and we love our furniture.

Sustainability

At Studio Botanica, we take pride in crafting exquisite one of a kind furniture pieces using aged reclaimed teak (Tectona Grandis). Typically, we source our timber from scrapyards in Maharashtra. These scrapyards have stockpiled teak wood that was salvaged from buildings that were condemned and demolished. Therefore, our timber supply predominantly dates back to the years 1935-1950, and tells a rich history spanning 70-90 years that's represented in its grains – perfectly imperfect.

Sustainability is at the core of our ethos, and we are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our operations wherever possible. By sustainably sourcing and utilizing reclaimed timber, we actively contribute to the preservation of trees and minimize the harm caused during our production processes.

A Commitment to Environmental Responsibility

Reclaimed teak offers a unique blend of durability, beauty, and environmental consciousness. Unlike freshly harvested teak, which contributes to deforestation and habitat loss, our reclaimed timber has already been extracted from its natural environment decades ago. By repurposing this aged wood, we eliminate the need for new logging, thereby reducing the demand for fresh timber and mitigating the associated environmental impacts.

The natural oils and dense grain structure of teak make it exceptionally resistant to rot, insects, and decay, ensuring the longevity of our furniture pieces. This durability not only enhances the value of our products but also aligns with our commitment to sustainability by minimizing the need for frequent replacements and reducing waste. Most of our customers respect and are also committed to these principles

Preserving History and Crafting Timeless Beauty

Each piece of furniture crafted from our aged reclaimed teak carries a unique story and a rich history. The marks, grains, and imperfections that adorn the wood are a testament to its past life, adding character and authenticity to our creations. As the teak is exposed to natual light, it undergoes a stunning transformation, gradually shifting from its original warm, honey-toned appearance to an exquisite and raw patina that exudes timeless elegance and charm.

By breathing new life into this reclaimed timber, we not only preserve its historical significance but also contribute to a circular economy, reducing waste and promoting responsible resource management.

At Studio Botanica, we are dedicated to creating beautiful, sustainable, and long-lasting furniture that harmonizes with the environment. Our commitment to using aged reclaimed teak is a reflection of our reverence for the planet and our passion for the art of furniture making.

With every piece we craft, we aim to inspire a greener and more responsible approach to resource utilization, while celebrating the rich heritage and enduring beauty of this remarkable material.
