Design History

The Pierre Jeanneret Easy Chair was designed by the Swiss-French architect, Pierre Jeanneret in the 1950s. He originally designed the chair for the city of Chandigarh in India, as part of a larger urban planning project. The chair was intended to be a functional piece of furniture suitable for the public spaces. Mainly civil servants and students of Chandigarh used the chair in their daily lives.

The unique design of the chair features a curved teak wood frame with rattan-cane webbing on the seat and back. Two V-shaped compass legs give the piece a unique form that provides stability. In addition, it is an effortlessly timeless piece of designer furniture that has become increasingly popular with collectors over the last few decades.
